The flag changed on 1 October 2026: the island left IHG and the Holiday Inn name behind and now trades as Kandooma Maldives, managed by HPL Hotels & Resorts, the group behind Gili Lankanfushi. Inventory has settled at 146 villas (from 154) under the phased Kandooma Next Chapter upgrade, works on reception, some restaurants and some villas run to 30 November, and the island has stayed open throughout. The change that matters most for this list is the rate: all-inclusive is now the standard plan, on a four-night minimum, and garden villas for two were pricing from about US$585 a night before tax on November dates at launch. That is above the old room-only lead-in but inside our line, and it now covers three meals, drinks from the all-inclusive menu and a daily guided snorkel. The island still earns its place through scale rather than polish: a private right-hand surf break that breaks within paddling distance of the beachfront rooms (a rarity outside Cinnamon Dhonveli), and the family-friendly arithmetic of children under thirteen staying and eating free. The 40-minute speedboat from Velana keeps transfer costs honest. The compromises are visible: the standard villa is built for utility, and the in-resort spend on excursions runs hot.

Centara's adults-only Giraavaru island is the workhorse of the affordable bracket, 140 villas, twenty minutes by boat from the airport, and 40 percent off speedboat transfers under the resort's current Ultimate Adults-Only Escape offer, which runs for stays to 30 September 2027. The Gold All-Inclusive plan is what people actually buy here; the room-only rate is academic by the time you've factored in Maldives food costs. Expect a buffet-led dining programme with one or two paid alternatives, ageing public areas in places, and an above-average house reef that does most of the hard work the design doesn't.

Meeru is a curiosity: 282 rooms, a pitch-and-putt golf course with its own driving range, and a clientele that returns year after year for the all-inclusive maths rather than any architectural ambition. The 55-minute speedboat across North Malé puts you outside the lagoon-skimming circuit but inside a properly equipped resort with a spread of restaurants and bars and an All Inclusive Plus plan above the standard package. Garden rooms are basic by 2026 standards; the Jacuzzi water villas are where the upgrade money is well spent.

Among the first resorts ever opened in the Maldives, Bandos has been periodically renovated rather than rebuilt, most recently the Gallery main restaurant and the new Premium Beach and Water Pool villa categories. Fifteen minutes by speedboat is the operational selling point: short enough to skip the seaplane-window cost and arrive in time for lunch. The price of that proximity is that you're parked in the Velana flight path, with the visual reminder of being a quarter-hour from Asia's busiest sub-200-square-mile airspace.

Vilu Reef is Sun Siyam's value entry, paired permanently with a 24-hour all-inclusive that genuinely covers the bar through the night, a rare honesty in a country where "all-inclusive" usually fences off the wine list at sundown. The house reef wraps the entire island and is the strongest single argument for the resort: a fringing edge with multiple drop-in points where overwater villa decks step directly onto coral. The seaplane transfer adds roughly $500 per person round-trip and is mandatory for daytime arrivals; the cheaper domestic-flight-plus-speedboat workaround is only available after 3:30pm.

First, the name: the property this list carried as Reethi Beach Resort has traded as NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort since 18 December 2025, when Minor Hotels reopened Fonimagoodhoo after a six-month renovation, and the entry now runs under the current flag. The bones of the value case survive the rebrand: now 105 redesigned villas along the same long, fringing-reef-encircled Baa Atoll island, entry rates that still land under our $700 line on current booking channels, and the seaplane sting still offset by a domestic-flight-plus-speedboat alternative for afternoon arrivals. What the rebrand changes is the operator story, the island that ran independently since 1998 is now a Minor Hotels flag, with the upgraded dining and spa (and the pricing pressure) that implies. Embudu is the entry point of Maldives resort pricing, a 122-room island in South Malé where the standard garden room is closer to $200 than $300 and the speedboat transfer is itself around $95 round-trip (US$98 from 1 November 2026) rather than the four-figure seaplane fees further out. The visual register is 1980s thatch rather than 2020s minimalism. The reason serious divers still book it is the house reef, which is consistently named among the strongest in the country: black-tip reef sharks, eagle rays and morays accessible by walking off the beach. Don't expect spa wow-factor or design press; expect the basics done cheaply and a Nitrox-friendly dive base.

Fihalhohi is, with Embudu, the floor of the affordable bracket, the cheapest categories reliably land under US$300 a night during the May–October monsoon shoulder. The speedboat takes about 45 minutes, the island sitting some 28 kilometres from the airport in South Malé Atoll, a longer reach than the North Malé properties higher up this list have to make. Reviews flag service inconsistency and dated rooms; the offset is the snorkelling on the western reef and a price floor that simply doesn't exist at the better-known names.

The largest of the legacy mid-market resorts, 360 villas spread along a 1.8-kilometre island, twelve restaurants, three pools, and the famous sandbank that disappears and reappears with the tide on the south end. Rasdhoo Atoll's small geography means the boat from Velana is long; most guests opt for the seaplane. Kuramathi rebranded as "Niva Kuramathi" under new positioning but the operational reality is unchanged: a mass-market four-star where the value sits in the all-inclusive package rather than the ticket price. Don't choose it for solitude. One 2026 caveat: an enhancement project under way since May continues in designated areas while the old water villas are rebuilt as Water Bungalows with Pool on the south side, due to take first guests from 1 November (one tour operator lists December), and Beach Bungalows and Superior Beach Villas reopened only in limited numbers from 1 August, so confirm which categories and stretches of island are open for your dates before booking.
